Inspired by Japanese Talent ROLA’s Talk ✍️

ROLA, a well-known Japanese model and singer, shared her powerful story in a recent talk. Several years ago, she struggled with depression and decided to take a deep look at herself once again. As someone of Bangladeshi-Japanese heritage, she felt a strong desire to understand her roots. This led her to start exploring the history and cultures of different countries around the world.

During this journey of self-discovery, she recently began practicing tea ceremony (Sadō / Chanoyu).

One of the core principles of the tea ceremony is to let go of worries about the past and future, and instead focus fully on the present moment. When you enter the tearoom, you prepare and serve tea to your guests with care. Every single utensil, every movement, and the entire space is treated with respect. This mindful process naturally becomes a way to connect not only with your guests, but also with yourself.

Through the act of hosting and caring for others, you deepen your understanding of who you are. In today’s fast-paced and often overwhelming world, this practice feels especially meaningful and necessary.

We all tend to get caught up thinking about what happened before or what might come next. But becoming too trapped by the past or future isn’t healthy. That’s why I truly believe that taking time to face the present — and to live in the now — through the simple, beautiful act of tea can be incredibly valuable.

ROLA’s words reminded me once again of the quiet power of matcha and Japanese tea culture.

Would you like to experience this “present-moment” mindfulness with a cup of high-quality matcha?
