Okinawa’s original tea
Have you ever heard of Okinawa’s original tea, "Bukubuku-cha"? 🍵
It looks just like a cappuccino with its thick foam created by a large bamboo whisk.
The ingredients are surprisingly simple: just tea, Okinawan water, and a little bit of rice. 😮❣️
This rich, fluffy foam can only be created using Okinawa’s hard water, which is high in calcium. 😌
It’s a culture deeply rooted in the land, where we get to "drink" the blessings of the earth—the water brought to us by the Dragon God.
I learned that hard water, rich in minerals, has a certain surface tension that prevents the bubbles from breaking, keeping the foam firm. ✍️
Also, boiling a small amount of rice together with the tea releases "saponin," the secret ingredient for the bubbles. ✨ Bukubuku-cha is truly a gift born from the harmony of tea, rice, and Okinawan water. 🌸
I feel like it was thanks to the Dragon God that I was able to encounter such a unique Okinawan tea! 😊
