Stage of Kiyomizu-dera
🌸 Do you know about the famous “Stage of Kiyomizu-dera”?
This legendary wooden stage was originally built so that performers could present their arts to the Bodhisattva (Kannon-sama) herself. ✨
But did you know? It was also a sacred place to offer and enjoy tea.
Even today, the beautiful Kencha-shiki (Tea Offering Ceremony) is still held regularly on this stage. 🍵
Renowned Japanese tea masters stand on the stage and solemnly prepare matcha as an offering to Kannon-sama — a truly sacred and breathtaking moment.
While tea offerings happen at many temples and shrines across Japan, the one at Kiyomizu-dera feels especially special… because it’s dedicated to the “art-loving Bodhisattva.” 💚
The ceremony is held on selected dates (not every day), but if you’re lucky enough to be in Kyoto when it happens, it’s absolutely worth seeing.
